You have not quite understood this correctly. I know from decades of experience that almost all investors are much more upset about having missed an opportunity (e.g. having sold too early) than about waiting longer for an investment if necessary and suffering book losses in the meantime.

That's why I take my hat off to GrumpyMonkey's decision. Although he realizes a profit, he also runs the risk of missing a potential opportunity. This is sometimes a difficult consideration.

Behavioral scientists have found that the pain of missing an opportunity is felt more strongly (twice) than the pleasure of an equivalent gain. While a realized loss is forgotten after a while, the missed opportunity is regretted forever.....

Nothing is more expensive than a missed opportunity.

PS: Don't worry about my investments. It's going quite well - even if I'm slightly in the red with HMX. I have other investments (not in Australia though).
