To get an extension on exploration leases you have to give something up, either a percentage of $ take or a piece of the land. This has happened several times in the past. It's like a punishment for taking too long and it also gives SGE an opportunity to cut back overheads by dumping land with not much potential.
Giving up 1000km2 of land and in a prospective area is utter BS and excessive. The land to the east of the fault line is rubbish land but to the west of the line has got significant potential. Just have a look at the flow rates in the bottom left corner of LxgEast.
