Re "..lack of upfront liquidity.. " as reason for non exercise of options - then surely you sell them to someone with funds - and another thing - why do coys. feel need to pay for underwriting when ex. price is obviously well below current & almost certain price on ex. date. The same applies to many rts. issues which predictably are massively over subscibed. Directors curry favor with broker mates & it is easy to be generous with somebody elses money.
