My guess in that the writing was on the wall a while back for SiLeach and LIT were looking at different processes. Instead of fluoride based, this time Caustic based. Caustic is expensive and tends to leach silicates (so you need a lot of it). Will work best with high grade concentrates, but spodumene is pretty refractory (difficult to leach) without roasting and or using hydrofluoric acid. LIT aims to use LiesNa on the Mexican clay they are drilling (info from a reliable source on other hotcopper threads). I also suspect they will have a process which aims to recycle the caustic (which is plausible) but only in places which have low energy (electricity) costs - such as Canada/ Europe/China - Places with hydro power or subsidised power- As recovering caustic is a very energy hungry process.
