The chemistry of batteries will be ever changing going by the research that is being done around the world. It would be unwise to commit to a single technology expecting it to remain the dominant one for ever.
What we do know is that most of the batteries made so far contain cobalt and nickel. Not all ev makers will follow Tesla into short range PFS ev batteries.
Recycling of lithium batteries is only in it’s early days, so the effect of batteries with new chemistry has a way to go before recycling of those batteries will be required..
Lithium batteries containing cobalt and nickel will probably not grow at the same rate they have so far but how by how much will it be effected?
A lot will depend on how stationary and long range battery electrical energy storage grows and will cobalt and nickel demand grow or shrink.
So, changes are on their way but they will be slow to take effect before recycling becomes viable.
Neometals and SMS Group we’re ahead of the game for lithium battery recycling and I expect they will be ahead of the game with what comes next.
