Sorry, I can't let this comment slide:

"100 km past Perth is just send, so nobody cares if there is a hole in the ground..."

This type of attitude really gets me riled up. You might see the area east of Perth as 'just sand' and not worth conserving or being concerned about, but I see it as being more important than some botanic garden created for city folk to feel all warm and fuzzy about experiencing and preserving their 'natural' environment.


I believe in the careful extraction of resources to benefit our rapidly expanding population. Personally I'd rather see an artificial environment such as Kings Park mined than the more natural environment east of Perth. However, putting aside the fact there's nothing worth mining under Kings Park the nimby elites would be up in arms and never allow it.
