Yes, I also do not understand the benefit in these exclusive contracts etc. for now.
It is way too early to be getting any volume of batteries from any car manufacturer's or BESS suppliers.
Maybe the game is simply to get SOME sort of relationship going.
In due course there will be heaps to deal with. How much will also depend on how battery tech develops.
