Agree. Solid state will be more expensive and slow to ramp. So it will need to have a significant performance advantage and will only work in expensive vehicles initially. But we are already seeing 800km range with existing tech and twenty year life. How much more do we really need!?
Another factor is charging speed. There is a limit to the practical amount of electricity that can be dumped from the grid into cars without expensive infrastructure. So a solid state battery may be able to charge quicker but it won’t have any practical advantage.
The biggest factor that solid has to overcome is production cost. I can’t see it beating the already well established lithium ion unless it can slide into the prevailing paradigm without massive new plant and equipment requirements.
