It's all to do with having enough funds. Having funds means ability to finance chess moves.
Don't underestimate the Russians, Lukoil is much much bigger than WPL and have plenty of spare cash; plus they would have made plenty of smart chess moves a well to get where they are.
Hope all that means a good get out of jail card for FAR.
