    • Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Diamantino Azevedo (archive)

In a note, on the occasion of the National Mining Worker Day, which is being celebrated today, the institution says that complaints should be made to the competent authorities, stressing that the illegal exploitation of mineral resources harms people's health, the environment and the economy.

In the document that Angop had access to today, the ministry encourages Angolan miners to continue to contribute to the diversification and growth of the national economy.

With regard to covid-19, which plagues the world, the ministerial department urges miners in the country "to scrupulously observe preventive and safety measures, at home and at work, in the case of those who provide minimum services".

National Mining Worker Day was established by Resolution No. 6/85 of 15 April, of the then Defense and Security Council, in recognition of the role of workers in that sector in transforming Angolan mining potential into real wealth.

Before in 1979, also on April 27, the Angolan State passed Law No. 5/79, the Basic Law for Geological and Mining Activities.
