Doctor / Nurse can determine some underlining cause (they are doctors, it’s their job). Runs Febridx to confirm diagnosis of bacterial / viral infection.

If viral, take Panadol and get out.

If bacterial, send sample to lab (if necessary) to determine infection and prescribe correct antibiotics.

Seriously, the amount of GPs and Doctors who prescribe antibiotics without actually knowing the specific bacterial infection / pathogen is very common. Every time I see a doctor it’s the same story. They “think” they know but they don’t “know know”. I have told doctors I have had issues with penicillin based antibiotics and they just find another option to provide from a list of crap. They aren’t testing for what specific pathogen I have.

Same reason why this is being picked up in the University clinics. Trainee doctors who are diagnosing patients now have a tool which can confirm their understanding and support the diagnosis.
