Stuart's in the AFR following his presentation at the Macquarie Conference the other day:

WA ‘heading for east coast-style energy crisis’

"Western Australia is heading towards an east coast-style energy crisis, driven by its poorly planned exit from coal-fired power and a big jump in demand for gas from a new petrochemical project, Strike Energy boss Stuart Nicholls has warned."

"Mr Nicholls said Strike has acted to take advantage of the tightening gas market in WA, pushing back its plans for a gas-based fertiliser project and instead directing capital to accelerating new gas supply."

"“While everyone has been focused on the east coast gas market and its policy interventions, the west coast market has transformed head over heels,” Credit Suisse energy analyst Saul Kavonic said. “There is no line of sight to new WA domestic gas supply aside from volumes from the Perth Basin and maybe some more Gorgon volumes when they become available.”"

"He said the tightening of the WA domestic gas market presents one of the most under-appreciated market shifts in Australia’s energy landscape in the last year, and is still flying below the radar of many investors."
