DEMIRS will determine whether mining can be undertaken in the region, I would say, based on the proximity to the old blue asbestos mine and the tailings, as well as the operational safety regime put forward by the Company.
Given asbestos mining ceased nearly sixty years ago it is well and truely worth asking the question again.
At some point in time those asbestos tailings have to be covered over and not just left and ignored.
Our mining application could include an offer to include remediation of the tailings, using our mining over burden, at a cost to the government or previous mine operators. Now there's a contract worth $$$$
The traditional owners would gain greater access to the region, though not immediately around old mine site. A working partnership with them would also enhance our application.
If it can be done safely, win win and a big mess gets cleaned up.
