An EPC contractor wouldnt give long dated extensions under a fixed price contract given the risk of rising labour/materials costs etc. I think this goes to show more that there was a fair bit of fat baked into the original EPC contract sum and that there isnt other construction in the area eating up all the resources. This could be an issue for other projects if Maggy is the first to get the construction.
Nevertheless why would KBR bother giving an extension if the project was a basket case, they must be actually thinking there is some hope here. Will look out for the KBR earnings call to see what they say about Maggy in their project pipeline discussions.
Most importantly, hopefully this a key item ticked off for a BTA customer who wants certianty of construction cost before committing.
