santos haven’t given up on the Liverpool Plains, but the community and elders are putting up a decent fight. Plebersek just doesn’t get it about how valuable the LPs are. One of our largest food bowls, planning on further exploration and testing of old wells….why test if you don’t have plans to operate. So the Liverpool Plains will have their water table depleted. Already TP has approved extension of three coal mines through the Pilliga Forest. Whitehavens mapping shows 9 water tables will be permanently depleted. Local landholders have already tasted success with stopping 2 large coal mines near Gunnedah already binned. I can’t see the gas pipeline/LP project going ahead without the intervention of some brown paper bags. The upcoming change of government might be pivotal moving forward.
