The one thing I will say on a positive note about the dividend (other than it is a windfall for me), is that management tend to be more disciplined when they have less cash on hand and further, once a dividend is declared (not a special) it is expected to continue, telegraphing to the market that management is confident in its cash flow forecast.
Paying a dividend also exposes the stock to an investment segment that only invests in companies paying a dividend. This can increase liquidity.
None of this excuses raising 40mil and giving a quarter of it back a few months later as a dividend (Dumb, dumb dumb), but since I am winning here, I will stop criticizing them and accept my winnings with grace.
