Well I was a Geologist at Olympic Dam and at Nifty Copper when they were run by WMC, and the HR manager was always complaining about the Labour costs etc the more remote you are. Horn Island is remote and if I was to fifo there I would want more money... Also you need to factor in freight - all big items need to come in by boat including Diesel ( that sir becomes expensive and flying in fresh food to feed 100 remote workers - because they demand it is expensive)... Break a de watering pump and you have to fly in a replacement or swamp the pit waiting for the barge - well I can confirm that it gets flown in at great expense. Oh and dont mention the Cyclones and the yearly joy that they bring. Other than that I am sure it is a Tropical Paradise just like Groote Eylandt where GEMCO are mining.
