    ore = waste* + resource

    therefore

    dilution <> waste / (waste + ore)

    dilution % = waste / (waste + resource) x 100%

    geologists find mineralisation and from it define resources

    mining engineers take resources and, somewhat less often, turn them into ore and ore reserves

    the old adage "waste + ore = more ore" is perhaps a mining engineer's joke or the chastisement of a mining engineer by a geologist

    in the case of NWC, ore - some waste = better ore could imply a more selective mining method or more favourable geotechnical conditions amongst other things

    *note that waste is not necessarily of zero grade, it is the stuff below cut-off and may contribute metal to the ore
