Comminution is the process in which the rock/ore is reduced to desired size where liberation of the minerals are maximum without changing the chemical and physical properties of the rock. Pulverization of a sample plays a very important role in the chemical analysis because of the fact that most of the grains of ore minerals are so closely associated with the waste, hence they must be liberated otherwise the chemical results obtained may not be correct and reproducible. There are several methods of comminution. The comminution is done in two stages: (1) Crushing and (2) Pulverizing/grinding.
