I tend to agree.
There is a mix of news in this announcement. Results for Freak are disappointing, but as you say Spec this is to be expected. They have done incredibly well with what they have turned up so far, especially when you take into account that others missed what was right under their nose. There are always going to be high grade areas and low to no grade areas, that's why we spend so much time drilling, to increase confidence in where the gold is actually located.
The decline development is encouraging, it will give much better access to key areas. I am also really pleased (as you highlighted) that they are going to extend the "development scope to commence initial access to the ore zones in advance of a production re-start Final Investment Decision". The sooner we get into production the better with a gold price this high.
Personally though, I am most interested in the step out hole from 800m. It was a bold move and a bit of a risk, but one worth taking. I've felt for a long time that the most prospective area, based on what they have found already is under West Winds. The structural controls seem to concentrate the gold along certain fault lines and the flexure zones. Even on the diagram they provide, it seems to me that there is such a control on the left of West Winds (northish I guess). In each of the 3 deeper deposits, and in West Winds itself, the higher grade seems to gather both below the flexure zone and closer to the structural control, generally to the south of it (to the right in the diagrams). You can see this particularly in both Never Never and Pepper. However, you can also see that the higher grade they have found so far at West Winds also tends to gather near the structural control.
I wonder if what they have hit at 800m is a little too far south and the better grades are in the space in between. Perhaps they have hit the edge of a higher grade area? We won't know for sure until the next round of drilling, but it looks interesting to me. Ideally I'd like them to focus on the area that I've circled in red, as to my mind it fits the passage best.
Kind regards.
