Because Drummond is such a cheapskate. Look at his bid behaviour on Bonaparte Diamonds. It is just a bargaining ploy. He has timed it perfectly. I won't touch his offer with a barge pole. He has all the look of the ultimate wheeler dealer, IMO. Has he ever brought anything into production himself? What Dr. Reid said about Drummond when Drummond bid for UCL before has come true.
More worrying is that Drummond had a say in the appointment of our MD and our MD has been coy, to say the least, about who appointed him. I can't imagine Drummond would ever appoint somebody smarter than himself, and Dr Reid was very smart (the reason he left? He was too independent minded? He showed complete understanding of all the problems in Iran within a few weeks of starting the job. That was not the case with his replacement, the current MD.
