I forgot to say: the only time I've seen a mass spectrometer in action, the technician operating it complained that undergraduates just hadn't a clue about how dilute their samples need to be: it seemed to me he was throwing all but one drop of their micro or nano molar sample solutions away and diluting the sample drop with about 10 cm3 of another liquid before putting it in the machine. Detecting the atomic mass of those isotopes won't be hard if they can get utterly minute single particles of the dust? I've heard there have been suspicions about top soil being removed at Parchin! It makes me laugh to read about Soltanieh saying the negotiations over Parchin are complex and how they would need to limit where the inspectors can go on the site.
