There are a few projects which are being developed and operated which are located inside the drainage basin of lake victoria.
For reference here is the vic lake basin with makuutu project shown in terms of locality.

People can use mindat or spend 10mins googling and you'll find projects which are operating inside the drainage basin and are arguably as or more intrusive in term on the mining. these were the first 2 i found with decent info to support i imagine there's dozens more floating around.
