Yes there is some very big question marks over the consumption and waste issues.
Its big business.
I noticed a new add pushing the latest iphone has hit the airwaves. Some 10 your old (less prob) making a short film with his friends on the new device. Why would anyone give their kid a $2k phone beggars belief, but aim the adds at the kids, and eventually the parents will give in. Jonny has one WAA, WAA, come on grandma, I'm nine now!
Same with Halloween, which has (amongst other theory's) pagans roots. Nothing to do with this nation, yet big business has made it big business by pushing into the children's domain. Around my area the local school started policing it as there were hundreds of little tykes demanding a years worth of sugar from each household. I was in Aldi yesterday, piles upon piles of cheap nasty lollies, and all those wrappers that end up down the drain.
And yet, modern mum only sends natural and organic snacks to school with their precious parcel who can share with her friends, JackHammer, Mega, Thor, Crystalise and Witch. But once a year, so they are not left out....
And then there's, Mothers Day, Fathers Day and Xmas (which has some tradition, but rapidly declining). All created by big business to buy several pieces of crap that you don't need. And if you did need it, you go get it yourself.
