While the Green lobby is trying to save the planet by castrating the Australian coal and gas industry, Its just been announced that Qatar has signed a 15yr deal to supply Germany with mega loads, of LNG and a 26yr deal with China. It intends to develop a gas field co-owned by Iran, and has taken a 30% interest in the undeveloped offshore Lebanese gas field .... so surely whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
Also, Alan Kohler pointed out in an article that the almost 20% of foreign income currently derived from carbon exports, has no apparent replacement. The greens say that "hydrogen" and exported solar power will replace it ...,. except it won't ... Australia has no natural advantages over other places, and the many technical and cost issues associated with this just get ignored by green panglossian economists.
To make matters worse, the Greens continue to demonise nuclear, despite the old nuclear shibboleth's being discarded around the world.
Australia has more uranium and thorium than most, but we are still selling the ultimate sustainable green solution on the cheap, and straddling ourselves with the pure renewable's myth .....
