Double brick is a west Aussie thing, also some other areas but its not the normal. Brick veneer is the normal for most parts. I know a bloke with a cinder block home in Denmark WA. He says its single leaf but I havnt seen it. I asked how do electrics work through the walls his reply was east they use a double blade grinder put in wiring and then patch it up. I asked if it was expensive he said no, easy as baking cake.

Don't get to caught up in what Troopy says, I appreciate his input but he is often wrong proven over time. He is likely good at what he does but I think he knows one way and that's his.
