Impressive presentation - logic would have Mahalo as the next gas field bough online to ease the East Coast gas crisis.
But logic is not determining energy policy in Canberra ATM. Every day, Richard Denniss of their Australia Institute, Tweets daily, rant against all things gas and coal, and would shut down the industry tomorrow if given half a chance.
While he and other critics have a very valid point about the pathetic amount of tax, especially compared to Norway (SWF = A$1.5 trillion), the notion that Australia doesn't need gas now or into the future is sheer economic madness.
Whats the point of declaring that a company like COI has enough gas to supply the East Coast for 15yrs, or BLU enough for 30yrs+, when these are strands assets without pipelines which this Federal Government will not allow ??
Meanwhile, the North West shelf gas exploiters (pun intended) carry on regardless, and contracts to supply LNG to Japan and Korea remain sacrosanct - after all, they're doing their best to cope with the Russian energy crisis using low cost fixed price long term LNG contracts (sic).
So, while I have a significant SH in COI, I cant bring myself to top-up even though logic says they're cheap.
