The story begins in 1956 when Allan McDonald, the local farmer of Mangaroon Station, stumbled upon the promise of riches beneath the earth's surface. His discovery sparked a flurry of activity, with veteran prospector Ernie Munns joining forces to sink two shafts in 1960. Their efforts were rewarded handsomely, with the initial haul yielding a staggering 145 ounces of gold. Over the years, the mine proved to be a lucrative venture, with earnings totaling $20,000 (in 1960's figures) from 1400 ounces of gold—a testament to its rich abundance.
Today, Dreadnought is honouring the legacy of these pioneers by further exploring the untapped potential of this area.
