Simple answer is that one of the parties is in the Australian jurisdiction therefore they can bring an action in an Australian court. What was GE finance is a good example of this approach. A person with a default to GE may live in Queensland, but they would bring the action in WA courts - they could because they had offices in all states and territories. A tactic that was used was to set the matter in a Court where they had standing and the poor defaultor couldn't afford to get there for the matter so it was heard in their absence and many times went against them.

The same approach could be being used here.
