My brief read of some of the background docs was that MKR were aware of the effect of the clays and its effect on recoveries but had some alterations to the plant to improve things? Either they aren't effective, or have limited effect with the never ending rain lately, but other posters comments about previous owners cherry picking and "high grading" the deposit does make things rather challenging, and as others have said, the sad Silver prices, and inflationary cost environment for mining with fuel and labor/skills in short supply won't help either.
And as @Gratton44 says - if the economics don't stack up, why spend money to mine/deplete a silver resource that might be (more) profitable at some future date? Leave it in the ground until metal prices allow profitable extraction, just a case of keeping everything ready to respond when metal prices do move in their favour.
