Because you are materially changing the asset, the CGT clock starts again.
What some do, and this can be risky, is they sell the option and buy into the heads.
On ASX, you can do this more easily as cleared funds aren't needed.
The downside is that SP can rise, and you also won't have the same leverage if dollar for dollar.
But usually the exercise price makes up the difference so same same in terms of capital used unless there is a change in SP.
