The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone , Her Excellency Madam Sia Koroma, has expressed grave concern over the odd manner in which certain parents treat their children in the rural communities. Madam Sia Nyama Koroma expressed her heartfelt disgust over the use of children by their parents and guidance as a source of earning income, while commissioning the Konta Islamic Primary School in Lunsar, Marampa Chiefdom , Port Loko District.
Though she described the occasion as a great moment in her life, yet the First Lady cautioned parents and guardians to refrain from the act of exposing their children to money, drugs, gambling, sex and prostitution. She added that by simply giving a child a tray of groundnut or corn or oranges for sale , this encourages the child to copy bad examples from the street. She therefore considered such mistakes as factors that may have negative effect on the development of the child.
Madam Koroma thanked the Cape Lambert Marampa Iron Ore Sierra Leone Limited for the construction of the school and other infrastructural developmens that have been undertaken by the exploration company.
She noted that the company has done so many things for the people of Lunsar and Marampa Chiefdom in particular. The First Lady implored the community to make good use of the facility by sending their children to school. She however pleaded with teachers to do away with grumbling and make very good use of their profession.
Madam Sia Koroma also warned against the reckless use of drugs meant for the implementation of the free health care delivery policy by health workers for their personal purposes. She reiterated that the APC government means business.
The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. A. O. Daramy, in his opening remarks , appealed for job opportunities for young people in the community and called on the Cape Lambert and other mining companies to make use of facilities provided by the Marampa Community Bank so that the people in turn can benefit from the proceeds. Paramount Chief Coblo Queen said that Sierra Leone should have very much confidence in the First Lady noting the good works that Cape Lambert has done tremendously in the community, ranging from the construction of a hospital at Mamusaya, the Round About, community centre , among a few others.
The Port Loko District Council Chairman, Ahmid Muniru Fofanah , said that Port Loko has received the attention of the APC government and that Lunsar now have reasons to develop. "We have never had a government that has such keen interest in the welfare of the people of Port Loko district;" he said. He noted that with the APC in power it is time for the district to move forward. He pleaded with land owners to be very much accommodating to investors and investment programmes.

The Head of Government and Community Relations of London Mining Tom Tucker has said that they will be spending $400,000 in the next six months on Corporate Social Responsibility. He made this disclosure when the Parliamentary committee on Mines visited the mining site ( Marampa ) on Monday.

In the Port Loko District Council, they have supported them with motorbikes and they have built water wells in all the villages they are operating. Mr Tucker said the Lunsar Town has unpaved streets, so they will pave them so all of them will be motor friendly. They will convert the Sengbeh railways bridge to vehicular bridge linking Pepel Island to main land Sierra Leone. Also they will be constructing a Court Barry in Pepel and they will support community sports and cultural events also in Pepel. Mr Tucker said they plan to refurbish the Lunsar Government Center and they will also support garbage collection in the Lunsar market. He said they will make sure they do all in their power to improve the areas they are working so the people will enjoy the facilities from the company directly working in their community.
