Safran update. Installation of a robot is exciting....
The Safran aeronautical wiring plant in Villemur-sur-Tarn continues to modernize in the manufacture of aircraft electrical harnesses and cabinets. Employing 550 employees on 10,000 m², the plant installed in its new building since 2011 belongs to the Safran Electrical & Power division. The company employs nearly 14,000 people in a dozen countries around the world.
Located in the north of Toulouse, Valentin Safir's establishment aims to become a pilot site. Most of the cable plugging operations on the electrical circuits involve manual manipulation. But these can turn into a real headache since there are 580 kilometers of cable on an aircraft like the A380. Safran introduces progressively new digitalization technologies to reduce error rates: during the summer of 2017, augmented reality will be introduced on assembly lines.
Reduce waste and increase productivity
" The machine will be there to avoid making inversions "Says Valentin Safir. Another innovation is the digitization which gradually allows the paper to be replaced on the assembly diagrams. When there is a modification to be made on a large harness, the digital jake board , or digital template, allows to make the manipulation more quickly. Save time and productivity. " The process will be generalized to certain posts when it is useful "Added Valentin Safir.
The system is already in place for the A350 since early 2017. Finally the installation of a robot in the form of an articulated arm on an automatic line will also be installed on site in a few weeks. In the testing phase, it will be responsible for labeling, sorting and storing cables. The aim is to reduce waste and avoid interruptions in the production cycle. Concerning the question of the jobs that these robots could threaten, Valentin Safir wanted to be reassuring by affirming that " Other jobs will be created in different branches ".
