It's fair enough to buy into a LIC that's trading below NTA, but not delivering a yield that's as high as another LIC that's trading above NTA, if you believe that you'll be able to realise the price/NTA difference at some indeterminate, possibly distant, time in the future. However, if your needs require a high yield in the here-and-now it makes more sense to buy a LIC that pays a high yield in the here-and-now, even though it might be trading above NTA.
