What % of those 550k pearls harvested are marketable? What is the average weight of pearls harvested? At auction they are sold per momme(1 momme = 3.75g) Would be nice to know average Yen/Momme they received at Auction.
Increased growing time of pearls does not increase quality, yield or weight is increased but quality of pearl is set pretty early in the production process. A C grade at 16 months will still be a C grade at 24 months however it could become a D grade.
Seasonal variations and site location have considerable effects on pearl quality so it is difficult to estimate what forward harvest quality will be, similar to variables effecting agricultural industries. Pearl farmers have very little control over pearl quality once the oyster has been nucleated.
