Ramelius sees labour crunch easing, despite COVID

Ramelius Resources has reported an easing of labour shortages since the WA border re-opened on March 3 and says COVID-19 has resulted in only a minor impact on productivity.

However peak labour shortages during January and February resulted in the mid-tier gold miner posting a lower than expected March quarter production rate of 58,602 ounces at all-in sustaining costs of $1596/oz.
That compared with output of 66,919oz in the December quarter at costs of $1493/oz.

But the Mark Zeptner-led miner noted improved road train driver availability in March had resulted in 127,000 tonnes of ore being trucked to its Edna May processing plant compared with just 80,000t in February.
And Ramelius said forecast ore haulage rates for the June quarter were expected to be higher again.

Ramelius reported 49 positive COVID-19 cases within its workforce during the quarter and 39 close contacts, which it said had a slight impact on productivity.

The miner also said the loss of personnel due to mandatory vaccine mandates appeared to have eased.
Still the gold miner has been forced to narrow its full-year gold production guidance range to the bottom end of previous guidance from 260,000-300,000 ounces to 260,000-265,000oz.
Meanwhile annual costs have narrowed to the top end of previous guidance from $1425-1525/oz to $1475-1525/oz.
Ramelius shares were off 1¢ to $1.45 at 8.25am.
