In hedge funds we usually try to 'simulate' positions which we cannot take naturally. For example, if we like a particular company's enterprise value to earnings ratio, but they are carrying too much debt and it makes us uncomfortable with the downside, then we can 'simulate' lower debt by keeping extra cash to cover for our position or taking options and CFDs to hedge the position.
While what I explained above with Shine is increasing the debt level through simulation, but that's only for comparison to Slater. Rarely we have problems with too little risk and want to increase risk to achieve higher returns. That's anti hedging.
