It doesn't matter what format it was or the bit rate or sampling rate or whether it was Dolby Atmos or DTS or Quaradphonic. Even the most compressed MP3 does not add that tape hiss like sound to an audio file.
A working chip would not add that noise to the output. The chip did not work then and it probably does not work well enough now for them to provide an audio sample.
