You are betting on the Wagners acting in the best interests of the shareholders as a collective whole?

Looking at listing price, and subsequent events, I would say Wagner family act in their own strict interests including opportunistic timing of the IPO of WGN.

ie the IPO was a means of extracting money from outsiders to transfer additional wealth to the Wagner family.

Naive shareholders got sucked in along the way.

This is not always the case, and that's why it pays to see not just want the 'insiders are doing, but how they act, how they allocate resources, etc.'

So given this understanding, a small shareholder needs to understand the Wagner family instinct and lack of regard for small shareholders.

Therefore, there will be opportunistic periods, when small shareholders can make money.

Essentially when the share price drops enough that the Wagner Family acting out of their own best interests, do something!!!!

If only to serve their own interests.

But this type of 'investment' for small shareholders is not a buy and hold. We can't believe anything that is said, this can't be a long term buy and hold, because we know the thinking of the family behind the controlling shares.

So we need to take a more Buddhist approach. Or watch a bit more of the old show 'Monkey Magic'.
Both pathways will lead to a more harmonious outcome for small shareholders.
