Look at it the other way, perhaps the way you are proposing; no success no pay means no food for the family, very few explorers willing to take that grave risk, very few finds.

What the shareholders are doing here is sharing the risk, mostly of us in manly fashion and not complaining when the drill doesn't turn up a bonanza.

In the old days of panhandlers, the general store backed the explorer for his supplies in return for a share of his finds. Not many starved, some of the general stores became wealthy families, and the rest disappeared into history. That is what is being repeated here. You would be wise to learn from history before putting finger to touchpad. And learning from the help other posters are trying their patient best to give you here.
