For me the main 'take aways' from today's announcement are twofold:
(1) The fact that although the company has "not ... represented to companies or others that they can detect the COVID-19 virus directly" there has nevertheless been an increased interest in its products/services because of developing political concern to protect public health in general.
At a time when the world is reactive to the current crisis, it is rather natural that governments, businesses & communities consider the future (whilst concentrating on the present) & deepen a resolve to be more proactive in the future in attempts to detect, analyse, identify, isolate & respond to potential water-born and air-born calamities. EVS can obviously work in collaboration with others to perform an important role in surveillance of many other different issues that may threaten public health in the future after this particular pandemic.
(2) The comments & explanations regarding reduced airline traffic & that this is not a material threat to the companies income is reassuring.
Re comments on potential additional contracts from public works on infrastructure funded by attempts to stimulate the economy seem speculative although plausible.
Re announcement of the AU$2.8m contract and the "fast tracked" brief 2-3 month timeframe - worthy of note that it is described as the "first phase' (that's encouraging) but that the amount is "inclusive of equipment costs" which apparently includes the costs "to procure and commission 375 third-party water quality analysers" (that's sobering) ... the actual (profit) "margins are commercially sensitive and cannot be disclosed" ... we will probably never know the actual profit from this contract.
There seems to be various facets to this announcement and overall I regard it as quite encouraging. IMHO - It seems more than merely an attempt to stop/slow the SP slide
