    From an accounting point of view the reserve figure is only used to determine amortisation on capitalised Oil & Gas assets and when performing impairment calculations. Auditors don't sign off on reserves, however, they are required to check the reasonableness of reserves in so much as they impact material numbers in the financial statements.
