Bots or "robots" are automated trading programs. They usually buy or sell very small parcels of shares at regular short time frame intervals. ie every few minutes If you have access to market detail you can see them, the people who use them don't pay brokerage like mum and dad investors. That is why they can buy only a few dollars worth of stock at a time, but accumulate thousands of dollars of stock in a day. I presume they think they can get better average prices by doing it this way.
