I also wonder if the ACCC is looking at a bigger picture whereby they are keen to ensure that Virgin remains a viable domestic airline to provide competition to the incumbent. If loss making Virgin disappears then the domestic airline market would effectively revert to a monopoly on the big routes which would be terrible for consumers.
If this is the case then the relationship between AQZ and Virgin should continue to flourish and be supported by the competition regulators. I would anticipate that AQZ may progressively operate more of Virgins regional and remote services that its fleet can do more effectively and efficiently. Virgin still benefits from this with an Australian wide route schedule and a clip of the ticket.
