For DRAM its not such a big deal.
The issue with not scaling is once you have your product there is no-where to go in terms of optimizations. Most of the DRAM guys are scaling to improve performance Micron is already at 10nm and there is new Ultra Violet technology being deployed to further enhance performance.
Lets be honest you are a buyer and I am a seller of 4DS memory.
I come to you and say we have a technology its blazingly fast but we cant scale it down anymore so the performance is the performance.
Coupled with the fact its not been tested or used in a Fab who wants to actually buy the technology how much is it worth?
Every memory technology which gets incremental and some times quantum performance increases over time is (UltraRAM works at 2xnm) is going to be more attractive to a prospective buyer.
