But IMO there's no way this type of activity would be a surprise to any employee - such jobs have been under threat forever it seems anyways. Everyone's job in any industry really.

Where I work, we're always seeking 'efficiencies' and see ongoing staff out the door all the time (and it's not at a bank). We're constantly engaging in projects that seem likely, in the end, to reduce the need for us at all.
Can't be as 'efficient' as Executive require AND have booming morale. We, as worker bees are conditioned to just get on with it. 'Process improvement', 'doing more with less', 'LEAN', cliche cliche...

So I don't think there's any sensitivities here in that aspect, but I can only speculate.

Very curious to see what happens...
