The "conundrum" you're facing is quite simple to solve:
1. Invest money you don't need 2. Invest only what you can afford to lose. Not related to the previous point. Ask yourself "how much cash I'm happy to give away (lose) for the amount of risk I'm taking?" and set yourself stop losses. 3. Patience 4. Diversify. I like to have a portfolio of around 5 stocks, no less, no more. All in different industries. 5. Do not hesitate when it comes to selling your parcel. You don't want to be stuck for years without being able to make that cash work for you.
The problem with investing money you need in the short term is that you end up making bad decisions. The long run always wins.
I've sticked to these basic rules no matter what and it's worked wonders for me in this FY.
