from memory a similar thing happened last year
strong southerly winds in the bottom of the gulf produce a fair size swell.Due to the shape of the cape this swell curves around a bit and becomes more from the south west making things rough offshore at the Skardon River
but forecast is for lighter winds so should settle down shortly
