The AOE tournament although small could be MS evaluating the functionalities of the platform first. If it is at a level where they require it might be more cost efficient to buy one outright or partner than keep developing their own. They shut down their streaming service MIXER and partnered with FB Gaming so their could be ulterior motives here also. Plus MS is a partner to Cloud 9 esports teams to supply them with data and game/player analytics so there could be something else to back that up as well.
