Just like with the faecal test for bowel cancer (aka the FIT test) the top of the range Microba product requires you collect a sample from the dunny bowl, and put your sample in the fridge for a while (though not overnight like for the FIT test). The Microba process also requires you to hand the packaged up sample over the counter at a post office (the FIT test is just to be put into a mail box [where in summer most / many of them are liable to spoil]).

Most people can't reliably crap on command so it makes sense for them to collect the samples at home rather than in the GP's premises. The yuk factor is actually a material factor. The Australian authorities have been shooting for at least a 60% take up of the faecal test for bowel cancer but no matter how much advertising they do the percentage number is stuck down around 44%. For the second most common cancer type and with millions of Australians in the 50 year to 74 year cohort that means heaps of people who did not know they have bowel cancer are only being picked in the late stages of the disease when the symptoms are more obvious. Terrible outcome for the people of course, and a terrible outcome for the health system.

I'm sure the suggested procedures for the Microba product will not be an issue for motivated users but to me it seems quite clumsy and not efficient enough for a mass screening regime.
